Report: Tottenham eyeing 'incredible' £43m attacker deemed a bigger prospect than Kobbie Mainoo

Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a solid season and will fancy their chances of securing a top-four finish this term.

Spurs looked rudderless at the end of last season as they limped to an eighth-placed finish without a manager at the helm.

However, since Ange Postecoglou took the Tottenham reins in the summer, Spurs have been a completely different proposition.

Indeed, Tottenham looked like they could’ve been dark horses for the title at one point, such was their impressive start to the campaign.

And now, with just seven league games remaining, Spurs are very much on course for Champions League qualification.

Tottenham have also done very well in the transfer market this season, and will probably be busy when the window reopens in summer.

One player Spurs are now reportedly monitoring has been deemed a more promising prospect than the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Evan Ferguson.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are ‘keeping an eye’ on Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams.

Spurs are apparently keeping tabs on the 21-year-old as they assess whether additions are needed in that area of Postecoglou’s squad when the window opens.

Chelsea have also looked at the £43million-clause ace, although their priority is an out-and-out striker, added the report.

Why are Tottenham said to be looking at Nico Williams?

Williams is set to be at the centre of Premier League approaches this summer, and it’s no surprise considering how well he has been doing.

The Spain international has registered six goals and 14 assists in 30 appearances for Athletic this term, and helped them win the Copa del Rey in April.

Just to show how highly rated Williams is at present, ESPN recently ranked him high up in their list of the top 39 youngsters in world football.

The reported Tottenham target was 16th in the ranking, ahead of the likes of Manchester United’s Mainoo, Brighton’s Ferguson and Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott.

At just 21 years of age, Williams has already made over 100 Athletic appearances, plus 13 Spain caps.

The La Roja talent has been labelled an “incredible” athlete, and there has been a suggestion that he is even faster than Kylian Mbappe.

Let’s see what happens in the summer. Tottenham have already signed Radu Dragusin and Lucas Bergvall ahead of Bayern Munich and Barcelona, so they’ll fancy their chances for Williams.
