Bayern Munich star expected to miss Arsenal clash next week, he caused problems last night

Bayern Munich impressed against Arsenal last night as goals from Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane saw the German side claim a 2-2 draw in the UEFA Champions League.

Heading into the tie, the reigning Bundesliga giants weren’t given much hope given their recent league form and some disastrous results in other competitions, with Arsenal, meanwhile, flying in the Premier League and sitting top.

Yet last night showed just how much of a threat Bayern Munich can be in the Champions League, even if Bukayo Saka was unlucky to not win a last-second penalty, a decision that left Rio Ferdinand in disbelief as TV cameras caught the Arsenal winger fuming with the officials.

Serge Gnabry set to miss Bayern Munich’s home tie vs Arsenal

However, as reported by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern will be without goalscorer and former Arsenal winger Gnabry for next week’s tie, with the Germany international suffering a muscle injury at the Emirates Stadium.

Plettenberg wrote: “Serge Gnabry most likely suffered a muscle fiber tear in the left rear thigh. Further examinations will follow. He is expected to be out for at least 2-3 weeks.”

With Gnabry scoring on the night and tormenting his former club, the 28-year-old missing out on next week’s game will be a huge boost for Arsenal in their hopes of getting a win in Bavaria.

Indeed, Arsenal know the task they now have ahead of them in the Champions League, and Gnabry’s absence will be vital for the north London side in keeping a clean sheet in Germany against Bayern.

Gunners have to take advantage of Bayern Munich’s injury blow

A draw is not the end of the world for Arsenal heading into next week’s return leg in Germany, yet Bayern losing Gnabry is massive for the Gunners.

Their former star caused problems all night for the north London side as Bayern looked noticeably weaker after Gnabry was pulled off due to his muscle injury.

If Arsenal are to get a result, the defence will have to be on their A-game, something we didn’t see last night, yet no Gnabry could do just that for Mikel Arteta’s side.
