Report: Tottenham really impressed with £15m player, Daniel Levy thinks he would be a 'low-risk signing'

Tottenham Hotspur are extremely likely to sign one player this summer.

Ange Postecoglou has done a terrific job at Spurs since taking charge of the club before the start of this season. His side are now the favourites to finish fourth and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Tottenham are expected to be very active in the upcoming summer transfer window, and it looks like they already know who their first target is going to be.

That is none other than Timo Werner, and a report has now shared what Tottenham are actually thinking about his future behind the scenes.

What Daniel Levy and Tottenham’s board really think of Timo Werner

Tottenham signed Timo Werner on a six-month loan deal from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window.

That move raised several eyebrows as the German’s previous spell in the Premier League – at Chelsea – was a disaster, and he was viewed by many as a flop.

Ange Postecoglou, however, put his faith in Werner, and the 28-year-old has been performing really well over the last few weeks for Spurs.

Tottenham have an option to sign Werner on a permanent deal this summer for £15 million, and GiveMeSport have shared the North Londoners’ current stance.

The report claims that Spurs are ‘increasingly likely’ to sign Werner this summer. It has been revealed that people at the club ‘have been left impressed’ with how well he has done in recent weeks.

What’s more is that Tottenham’s hierarchy, which includes chairman Daniel Levy, reportedly view Werner as a ‘low-risk signing’ in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The German, in less than 700 minutes of football at Tottenham, has scored two goals and picked up three assists in the Premier League so far. He can play across the front line looks like a really good fit in Postecoglou’s system.

What Roy Keane has said about Timo Werner is really interesting

Timo Werner has always divided opinion here in England.

The German was a superstar at RB Leipzig before he joined Chelsea, and everyone expected him to become a huge hit in the Premier League back then.

However, Werner was really poor at Stamford Bridge and was heavily criticised for his performances in front of goal at the time.

The 28-year-old’s finishing is still not great, but Roy Keane, who came up against some of the best players in the world back in the day, has suggested that he would not like to play against him because he’s a nuisance.

“He’s a nuisance to play against, isn’t he, Werner? There’s question marks about his end product and whatever, his final pass. But he does affect games, he is a threat,” Keane said earlier this month.

“I think probably wide [is his best role]. I don’t think he enjoys it so much when his back’s to play, and his hold-up play. But when he’s in these wide positions, he is effective.”

Ange Postecoglou perhaps shares a similar view on Werner, which is why it has been reported that Tottenham are likely to sign him on a permanent deal this summer.
