Report: Manager Liverpool reportedly rejected has now become a 'strong candidate' to become Man United boss

Liverpool are on the hunt for a new manager, and it looks like Manchester United are keeping an eye on candidates to potentially replace Erik ten Hag as well.

The two fierce rivals, who will face each other in the Premier League on Sunday, are having very different seasons, aren’t they?

Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup and are among the favourites to win the Premier League and Europa League in the next two months.

Manchester United, on the other hand, look like they will miss out on Champions League qualification, and that has put Ten Hag’s future up in the air.

Italian manager becomes ‘strong candidate’ for Manchester United job

Erik ten Hag is approaching two seasons as Manchester United’s manager, but there are still mixed feelings about him around the fan base.

The Dutchman won the League Cup and helped the club qualify for the Champions League in his first year at Old Trafford. That deserves a lot of credit.

This season, however, things haven’t gone to plan. Manchester United are currently sixth in the table, and the chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are extremely small now.

That’s why there is a lot of speculation around Ten Hag’s future, with some reports claiming he will be sacked at the end of this season.

If that happens, Manchester United will need to have a plan in place over who to appoint as Ten Hag’s successor, and a number of names have been linked already.

Now, GiveMeSport have claimed that Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi has emerged as an ‘increasingly strong candidate’ to become the next Manchester United manager.

The Italian has done a fantastic job at the Amex over the last two seasons. He is a phenomenal manager who has impressed everybody, including Mikel Arteta and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

If Ten Hag does get the sack, we think De Zerbi would be a great option to replace him at Old Trafford.

Liverpool change their mind about Roberto De Zerbi

Before Manchester United came into the equation, Liverpool were heavily linked with a move to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as their next manager.

It was reported that the Italian was on top of Michael Edwards’ wish list, but recent reports have claimed that Liverpool are no longer focusing on him (Sky Sports).

The Reds aren’t said to be fans of his personality – “he’s outspoken and he’s hot-headed in some ways“. That’s why they have decided against going for him as their new boss.

It will be interesting to see if Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team at Manchester United will think about this if they sack Ten Hag and consider De Zerbi as his successor.
