‘I do fancy their chances’: Glenn Hoddle shares who he thinks will go through… Arsenal or Bayern Munich

Glenn Hoddle has delivered his verdict on the Champions League quarter-final clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Mikel Arteta’s men will head into tomorrow night’s first leg at the Emirates Stadium full of confidence off the back of a brilliant run of form.

Arsenal have won 10 of their last 11 Premier League games and currently lead the way in England’s top flight.

While the Gunners have reached new heights under Arteta this term, the same cannot be said for Bayern Munich.

Thomas Tuchel’s side look all but set to miss out on the Bundesliga title as they trail Bayer Leverkusen by 16 points with six games left to play.

The former Chelsea boss is set to leave Munich this summer but has insisted his side is capable of beating Arsenal.

Bayern will certainly have to improve on their latest display as they surrendered a two-goal lead at Heidenheim on Saturday.

And with Harry Kane set for a swift return to the Emirates tomorrow evening, another Tottenham legend, Glenn Hoddle, has shared whether he believes Arsenal will advance to the semi-final.

Hoddle predicts Arsenal vs Bayern

Speaking to TNT Sports, Hoddle admitted that he fancies Arsenal to beat Bayern over two legs.

“I do fancy their chances because I’ve watched Bayern Munich quite a bit this season and they are not functioning anywhere near as good as we know they can be,” he said.

“Harry Kane is a danger of course and wouldn’t that be ironic if Kane knocked Arsenal out?

“But really over two legs, I do fancy Arsenal to win. I think they’ll beat them and knock them out.”

Arsenal’s record against Bayern

It’s fair to say that Arsenal have struggled against Bayern in the Champions League over the years.

In 12 meetings in European competition between the two sides, the Bundesliga giants have won seven times.

In their last three fixtures, Bayern have won each game against Arsenal by a scoreline of 5-1.

The German giants have knocked the Gunners out of the Champions League on three occasions – 2004/05, 2012/13 and 2013/14.

But when you look at how both teams have performed this season, it’s difficult to look past Arsenal.

If the Gunners play their usual game and don’t allow the occasion to get to them, they should have enough to beat a below-par Bayern side.
