Spurs reportedly want to sign £60m 'phenomenon' deemed the new Lilian Thuram; he's as fast as Alphonso Davies

Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a fruitful season, with a Premier League top-four spot still very much up for grabs.

Spurs have quickly risen back to prominence after Ange Postecoglou took the Lilywhites reins in the summer.

A combination of great tactics, solid man-management and some shrewd acquisitions in the transfer windows have turned Tottenham’s fortunes round.

Now, with the summer transfer window on the horizon, we could see Spurs bring in yet more new arrivals as Postecoglou looks to revamp his squad.

“If you’re saying ‘is it an area we can strengthen?’, yes, it’s an area we will probably look at,” the Australian said in March when asked if his side will sign a new centre-back (football.london).

One player Tottenham are currently being linked with has been likened to France legend Lilian Thuram and is said to be open to joining Spurs.

The player in question is RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan, who has been making a real name for himself in the Bundesliga.

Sky Sport Germany journalist Philipp Hinze recently reported on X that Tottenham are interested in the 23-year-old, as are Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Leipzig apparently value Simakan in the region of €70million (£60million), and the player is said to be open and ready to make a big career move.

What has been said about Tottenham target Mohamed Simakan?

Strasbourg boss Francois Keller likened the former France Under-21 ace to Manchester United’s Raphael Varane, and deemed him a “phenomenon”.

Meanwhile, scouting expert Jacek Kulig suggested that Simakan is “the new Lilian Thuram” and deemed him a “fantastic player”.

According to The Speeds Database, Simakan has hit a top speed of 35.50km per hour, which is on par with Alphonso Davies and faster than Anthony Gordon and Darwin Nunez.

Tottenham have certainly put in a lot of work in revamping and improving their defence. Simakan would be another great addition to the N17 ranks.

Let’s see what happens in the summer. Tottenham have struck some great deals in recent years, and they’ll surely fancy their chances in pursuit of Simakan’s signature.
