Fabrizio Romano has shared 'significant' development involving Liverpool and Ruben Amorim

Liverpool are currently in pursuit of a new manager to take the reins when Jurgen Klopp leaves Anfield at the end of the season.

The Reds have been linked with a number of coaches in recent months, but were sadly dealt a big blow in pursuit of one of their top targets.

Liverpool were said to be in pursuit of Anfield cult hero Xabi Alonso, but he has since revealed that he plans to remain with Bayer Leverkusen in the near future.

With that in mind, the Reds are having to look elsewhere, and several names are now doing the rounds on the rumour mill.

Ruben Amorim is arguably the biggest name doing the rounds now, with speculation suggesting he is now the frontrunner for the Liverpool role.

Indeed, reports on Tuesday even claimed that Amorim has verbally agreed to take the Liverpool job from the summer.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has now shared the latest on the Amorim to Liverpool speculation, as per CaughtOffside.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Liverpool and Ruben Amorim?

Romano says the Reds have made contacts with people close to the Sporting Lisbon coach, a “significant” development as it’s not something they’ve done with other managers.

The Italian also spoke about “more discussions” in the pipeline between the Anfield camp and the 39-year-old manager.

“Ruben Amorim is the favoured candidate for Liverpool for sure,” wrote Romano.

“But we still have to wait and see because Liverpool are discussing this possibility internally, while they have also made contacts with people close to Amorim.

“This is significant because it’s not something they did with Roberto de Zerbi or some of the other names we’ve seen in the media in recent weeks.

“So, Amorim remains a strong candidate – they are well informed on his contract situation and there will be more discussions over him becoming the new Liverpool manager.

“As previously reported, there is an agreement with Sporting for Amorim to leave for around €10m if a top club comes in for him, even if his formal release clause for clubs outside Portugal is €20m.

“This could be a boost for Liverpool.”

What can Liverpool fans expect from Ruben Amorim?

Amorim looks like a great shout for Liverpool, as he’s a young and talented manager who has achieved a lot with Sporting.

In terms of what Reds fans could expect from Amorim, Braga head of recruitment Paulo Meneses told The Athletic in 2022: “His playing style is clearly pragmatic.

“He is a studious coach, with a great capacity for work and a lot of intuition. In addition, he is a born leader, with great communication skills, both internally and externally.

“He is contagious with his will to win and with the conviction that only with hard work from everyone is this possible. Group work is really a crucial point of Ruben Amorim’s philosophy.”
