‘Offered little’: Journalist left baffled by what 3.5/10 Derby County ace did in draw v Wycombe

Derby County endured a night to forget as they slipped to a goalless draw against Wycombe Wanderers, with one man in particular letting Paul Warne down.

The promotion pendulum has swung in the opposite direction following Derby County‘s 0-0 draw against Wycombe Wanderers last night.

Derby were firmly in the driving seat for automatic promotion as a win at Adams Park would have opened up a four-point gap on Bolton Wanderers, who play host to Portsmouth this weekend.

Paul Warne outlined his disappointment with the result and the performance of his players post-match, as only midfield destroyer Ebou Adams deserved praise.

Solid performances across the pitch were few and far between last night while several had a night to forget, including one player who has looked brilliant recently.

Corey Blackett-Taylor had a night to forget vs Wycombe

Corey Blackett-Taylor was starting to show his best form in a Derby shirt, with Warne lauding him as a “constant threat” against Portsmouth while Leigh Curtis directed “magnificent” praise towards him.

The jet-heeled winger looked like he was gaining momentum at the right time to help deliver the Rams’ automatic promotion. However, Blackett-Taylor had a night to forget at Adams Park.

The 26-year-old had a golden opportunity to put his side ahead in the first half but he somehow slid the ball past the post with the goal at his mercy.

Derby Telegraph journalist Leigh Curtis was left baffled at how he didn’t put the visitors ahead, awarding him a 3/10 match rating after ‘offering little’ after.

He wrote: “Not sure anybody can explain how the winger missed a glorious chance to make it 1-0 early on when he miscued at the back post. Has to be scoring. Offered little after. 3.5”

Corey Blackett-Taylor stats vs Wycombe

The former Charlton Athletic star didn’t just miss a chance that looked harder to miss, his all-round performance was poor and that was a sign of a player struggling for consistency.

Withdrawn in the 60th minute after rarely looking a threat down the left flank and making just 16 touches in the match, the Englishman was practically non-existent when Warne needed him most.

Blackett Taylor’s statistics against Wycombe, as per Sofascore.

  • 60 minutes
  • 0 crosses
  • 0 shots
  • 0 dribble attempts
  • 1 big chance missed
  • 0 ground duels won
  • 0 tackles
  • 0 interceptions

From an attacking point of view, Blackett-Taylor failed to inflict his undoubtedly quality onto the contest while the defensive side of his game also suffered.

He did not attempt to win possession for his side, lacking urgency with his pressing while cutting a disconsolate figure on the left side.

Rightfully substituted 30 minutes from time, Blackett-Taylor must put this dismal display behind him by tearing through Leyton Orient on Saturday.
