Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca says the EFL are making his side do something which is not normal

Leicester City resume Championship action on Friday evening, as they travel to relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle.

Enzo Maresca‘s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Millwall on Tuesday as the same issues began to reemerge.

Patson Daka squandered a golden opportunity in stoppage time when he headed Dennis Praet’s chipped cross well wide of the target.

Despite the disappointing result, Leicester‘s automatic promotion rivals Leeds United and Ipswich Town were both held to draws at home, which means City stay at the summit.

Ahead of their trip to Plymouth, Maresca sat down and spoke to the media on Thursday morning and he wasn’t happy with the EFL.

Maresca, speaking to BBC Radio Leicester, shared his concerns over the fixture scheduling, as City have another away clash tomorrow.

“I don’t think people care about the players, about healthy players. Otherwise we wouldn’t see this decision. They are human beings,” he said.

“We have two away games in a row, with the longest trip of season and we get back at 3am. I don’t think it’s normal to play Tuesday away and then Friday away, but we’ll have to adapt.”

The journey from Leicester down to Plymouth on the south-west coast is roughly around 241 miles, meaning the round trip will be 482.

Enzo Maresca will have to make wholesale changes

Leicester looked pretty leggy on Tuesday so to have another fixture to contend with 72 hours later is a real concern.

Maresca will simply have to make wholesale changes, even if it means dropping some big players to the bench.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was some way off the pace on Tuesday and could benefit from a rest. Perhaps Dennis Praet could come in to replace him after a good cameo appearance at The Den.

Wilfred Ndidi looked particularly tired and lacked an end product, so he’s another who should be named on the bench.

With Ipswich and Leeds both in action at home on the weekend, they’ll be expected to pick up three points, so City must be firing on all cylinders against a side fighting for their Championship status.

Leicester can apply pressure on their promotion rivals, though, as they are the first to play, so there is one benefit to the fixture schedule.

A telling dew days await The Foxes.
