Tottenham will face 'fierce competition' to sign 'magic' £30m man this summer - journalist

Tottenham Hotspur will face stiff competition in their attempts to sign a forward who seems destined to play in the Champions League next season.

Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy are probably anticipating an incredibly busy summer ahead, when the side should be able to take advantage of their strong financial position.

The addition of Champions League football, which now seems inevitable via fourth or fifth position, should only enhance their chances of success in the window.

It bodes extremely well that the club were able to recruit players like Micky van de Ven and James Maddison without even playing in Europe this season.

Postecoglou has made it clear that he doesn’t want to sign any ‘glory hunters’ so to speak, players coming just for the Champions League.

But that success will broaden the appeal of Spurs’ project, and proves they are on the right path.

That being said, it’ll be interesting to see where the club decides their funds are most needed.

Perhaps a lot of that will depend on departures, for example the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

And a decision on whether to buy Timo Werner permanently or not also looks very significant.

Tottenham face strong competition to sign Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa this summer

Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson, who is having a ‘magic’ time of late, is thought to be target for the club.

But with Spurs now boasting considerable numbers in their squad up top, it may be akin to a one in, one out policy.

That being said, journalist Rudy Galetti has detailed that Gudmundsson remains firmly on the club’s shortlist for the summer, but admitted there will be heavy competition.

He explained: “Gudmundsson – fierce competition expected in the summer.

“Tottenham have the [Iceland international] on the shortlist to strengthen the attack.

“Inter [Milan] already took important steps and new contacts with him, and with Genoa, will take place soon.

“Other English and Italian clubs on his tracks: open race.”

The £30m-rated winger does now have 14 goals in 31 appearances this year, by far the best season of his career to date.

Gudmundsson has hit a sharp upwards curve of improvement, and displayed for Iceland during the recent internationals that his Serie A form can be taken elsewhere.

A creative talent like Gudmundsson really would be an exciting player for Postecoglou at Tottenham, who would then have an obvious alternative to Maddison at number 10 when needed.

That being said, James Maddison has just shared how he felt watching Arsenal in the Champions League this week.
