Report: Spurs now prioritising move for £60m star who's 'one of the top ten players in Europe', talks in full swing

Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a fruitful season, with a Champions League still very much up for grabs.

Spurs have quickly risen back to the upper echelons of the Premier League table after Ange Postecoglou took the reins in the summer.

A combination of great tactics, solid man-management and some shrewd acquisitions in the transfer windows have turned Tottenham’s fortunes round.

With the summer transfer window on the horizon, we could see Spurs bring in yet more new arrivals as Postecoglou continues to revamp his squad.

Now, one report has claimed that Tottenham have made a footballer deemed ‘one of the top ten players in Europe’ a priority target, with contacts going on for weeks.

The player in question is Feyenoord and Mexico forward Santiago Gimenez, who Spurs have been linked with in recent months.

Rudy Galetti has taken to X to report that the 22-year-old “appears to be the priority” for Tottenham in their pursuit of a new striker.

“Contacts with Feyenoord are going on for weeks,” added the journalist, who also said Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson “remains a concrete option” as second-choice.

Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Santiago Gimenez?

Tottenham have been impressive in the market over the past few years, and Postecoglou is a very good manager when it comes to signing players.

And Gimenez is an outstanding talent who looks like he could do a great job for Spurs were he to join.

Gimenez has registered 24 goals and six assists from 38 club outings, plus two goals and one assist for Mexico over the past 12 months.

Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig has likened the left-footer to Erling Haaland, while Goal.com claimed last year that he is ‘following in the footsteps of (Robin) Van Persie’.

In terms of Gimenez’s style of play, Kulig has deemed him a ‘complete forward’ with pace, athleticism, finishing, heading, instinct and movement among his strength.

And in terms of value, The Guardian claimed earlier this year that Feyenoord are likely to demand around £60million to part company with his services.

According to Morris Pagniello – an agent said to be close to Gimenez’s family – the forward is ‘one of the top ten players in Europe’.

Back in August, speaking to MedioTiempo, he also linked Spurs to the player. Let’s hope the Lilywhites can go on and get this deal over the line in the coming months.
