“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” his family wrote in a statement on his X account, formerly known as Twitter. “He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

“During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” they concluded the statement before signing off, “The Simpson family.”

OJ had five children from his two marriages. Two of his children, he shared with his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, before she died in 1994. The athlete was accused of murdering his ex-wife and her friend Ron Goldman after they were found stabbed to death outside her home.

Simpson pleaded not guilty in the extremely high-profile case and was acquitted by a jury. However, a civil lawsuit from the victims’ families found him responsible for wrongful death and battery, which ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages.

The former NFL star told fans ‘all was well’ in one of his final videos

Just two months prior to his death, on Feb 9, OJ took to his social media accounts to reassure fans all was well after rumors circulated that he was in a hospice.

In the video, the star could be seen in the driver’s seat, looking in good spirits as he exclaimed: “HOSPICE? HOSPICE? You talking about hospice?” chuckling to the camera. “No, I’m not in any hospice, I don’t know who put that out there.

He told fans you “can’t trust the media” before informing them he was hosting a ton of friends for the Super Bowl, in which the Kansas City Chiefs beat OJ’s former team, the San Francisco 49ers.

“All is well, take care guys,” he announced happily before telling his followers to have a good Super Bowl weekend.

Two days later, on the day of the big game, the star posted another social media video in his 49ers jersey, as he predicted they’d take home the title. The video then became his final social media post before his death.
