'Unbelievable': Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker shocked by what £30m Arsenal player did against Bayern

Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich was incredible viewing for the neutral. A brilliant advert for the Champions League, and despite all the controversy and incident, probably a fair result in London.

Bukayo Saka’s early goal was instantly cancelled out by Bayern, with goals from Serge Gnabry and then Harry Kane – who scored his 15th goal in his 20th game against Arsenal. Leandro Trossard made it 2-2.

The game involved a penalty shout for Arsenal in the dying moments, a bizarre penalty shout for Gabriel handballing, and even a possible red card for Harry Kane. A brilliant game, in a frenzy of an atmosphere.

It sets up a very exciting second leg in Munich next week, with Arsenal still the side in much better form – but home advantage going to Bayern. The league is gone for Bayern, they may rest some of their stars.

Harry Kane spoke of how David Raya made it easy from the spot

England captain Kane – who scored his 39th goal for Bayern in what has been a superb debut season in Germany on a personal level – spoke about the game about how he had researched David Raya prior.

He spoke of how the Spanish goalkeeper always dives early during penalties, observing his technique in the shootout win over Porto. It saw Kane stutter his run-up, allowing Raya to make the first move.

Analysing the 2-2 draw, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer could not believe how early the £30m Arsenal man had dived for the penalty – throwing himself to his right as Kane rolled the ball in on the opposite side.

What Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker said about David Raya

Speaking onThe Rest Is Football’s latest podcast, Shearer said: “He did [dive early]. Oh my god, it was unbelievable how early he dived. He was practically down before he [Kane] had even hit the ball.

“You should never change your mind, but if the keeper is practically lying down on the right-hand side, you can change it,” he added. Lineker joked: “He went so early, the referee had barely given the penalty.”

It’s something to work on for Raya because now, when a penalty is given against Arsenal, players will wait for Raya to make the first move – after Kane’s observations. It was as easy a penalty as he will ever score.

Certainly, ahead of the second leg, Raya has got to be working on staying on his feet as late as possible. Otherwise, Kane will easily score from a spot kick if given the chance in the second leg, next week.
