'Oh my gosh': Rio Ferdinand says 25-year-old did something Gerrard like last night after Liverpool bid rumours

It was an incredible night of Champions League football in London and in Madrid – with the latter staging a stunning clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City, a game going back and forth.

It eventually finished 3-3, as Manchester City and Real Madrid put each other to the sword – with some quite incredible goals being scored. Many claim the winner of this tie, could go and win the whole thing.

Bernardo Silva’s quick thinking and perfect execution gave City the lead from a free-kick, but Madrid turned the gam on its head instantly – two deflected goals from Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo.

But City’s quality proved difficult to peg back. One of the most in-form players in world football, in Phil Foden, got an equaliser – curling in from the edge of the area. Josko Gvardiol gave City the lead.

Federico Valverde scores stunner as Madrid draw with Man City

With his weaker right foot, he curled in a gorgeous effort from the best part of 25 yards. But the topsy-turvy nature of the game was not done there, and Federico Valverde had the last say on Tuesday night.

Vinicius Junior found him with a cross, but the Uruguayan still had plenty to do. However, showing some incredible technique, he slammed home a volley – leaving Stefan Ortega helpless. A wonderful finish.

The 25-year-old has been one of Madrid’s best players over the last few years and that has attracted interest from Liverpool ahead of the summer. Reports claim The Reds have left a bid on the table.

A club-record bid of £129m for the midfielder, who is often seen playing on the right. Rio Ferdinand raved about his goal on TNT Sports’ Highlights Show, desricibing the volley as “Steven Gerrard-ish”.

What Rio Ferdinand said about Federico Valverde’s goal last night

“What a goal. Oh my gosh. Unreal, the way he’s just slotted that with his right foot. It’s hard to do that on the run. Technique, beautiful, watch it in slo-mo – it gets better every time. That’s Steven Gerrard-ish.”

It is not actually the first time Valverde has been compared to Gerrard, with the Uruguayan star once commenting on the comparisons – describing it as “spectacular” to be named alongside Gerrard.

Whether Liverpool are able to tempt him away from Real Madrid, and whether The Reds would actually be willing to commit such a large sum of money, remains to be seen. It does seem unlikely, though.
