'Absolutely massive': Jamie Carragher predicts what Arsenal will achieve over the 'next four or five seasons'

Over the past five years, Arsenal have gone from a club struggling to even reach the Champions League into one challenging for the Premier League title.

When Mikel Arteta took the Arsenal reins in December 2019, they were tenth in the Premier League table.

Arteta has overseen a major rebuilding job at the Emirates Stadium, a product of hard work, ruthlessness and patience.

However, things clicked for Arsenal last season, and they ended up pushing Manchester City all the way in the Premier League title race.

This year, the Gunners are doing even better, currently sitting top of the table and also in with a shout of the Champions League semi-finals.

On Tuesday night, Arsenal played Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final with Bayern Munich.

Considering the Gunners lost each of their prior meetings with the Bavarians by a 5-1 scoreline, they were much improved en route to a 2-2 draw.

Admittedly, Arsenal did make some mistakes, but they pulled it back after going 2-1 down and remain in contention ahead of the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Jamie Carragher, speaking on CBS Sports after the match, said the Gunners experienced a “great learning curve” against Bayern.

The pundit also backed Arsenal to become Champions League regulars over the next few years.

What has Jamie Carragher said about Arsenal future?

“I think we should remember as well this is the first year they are in the Champions League,” said Carragher.

“That was a great learning curve, Porto were a team you expect them to beat, but they found it tough and this again was a real learning experience for them.

“We have experience of playing in Europe and you think everything is fine and before you know it you’re getting beat 2-1 and you can’t work out what’s happened.

“It felt like that watching Arsenal, it wasn’t quite the same team you see in the Premier League because Europe is different. The ground it out, and got themselves back into it.

“It’s going to Munich and if they can come through that it will be absolutely massive for them.

“Not just this season, but in terms of going forward because Arsenal are a team I think will continually be in the Champions League for the next four or five seasons.”
