Report: Leeds United will try again to sign 'outstanding' player who Jesse Marsch failed to bring to Elland Road

Leeds United will already be putting plans in place ahead of the summer transfer window.

There are now just a matter of weeks of the season remaining and so those behind-the-scenes will be preparing for all possible eventualites.

Leeds currently sit third in the Championship just one point adrift of the automatic promotion places and so the division they are playing in next season still very much remains up in the air.

That said, regardless of what happens, it looks set to be another busy summer. Leeds will need to decide what they do with the returning loanees, and if promotion does happen, reinforcements will be required.

If Leeds remain in the Championship, their recently released accounts suggest that sales will have to happen. Spending money may also be a little tighter.

Leeds to try sign Southampton striker Adams

There is one player Leeds could look at targeting this summer regardless of the division they are in on a free transfer.

Particularly in the Championship, this could prove to be a really useful market for Leeds to look at, as it would allow them to rebuild the squad without spending too much.

According to TeamTalk, Leeds are looking at a deal for Southampton striker Che Adams, who is out of contract on the South Coast at the end of the season.

They will, however, face competition from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, who like Leeds, are long-term admirers of the Scottish international.

As per the report, Leeds see their forward line as an area that needs addressing in the summer, with that number nine spot still proving to be an uncertain position.

Patrick Bamford has seen his form drop off in recent weeks, Mateo Joseph is still yet to be trusted from the start, and Joel Piroe isn’t really a lone frontman.

Leeds previously tried to sign Adams under Marsch

As mentioned, Adams is a player that has been on the radar at Elland Road for a number of years now, with Victor Orta first trying to sign him in January 2020.

In the summer of 2022, Leeds were also in need of a new striker and after failing in their pursuit of Charles de Ketelaere, Adams was someone Leeds were considering as an alternative.

This certainly makes for an interesting transfer story considering what Leeds are battling with the ‘outstanding’ Adams‘ current side Southampton against.

Should Leeds fail to finish in the top two, there is a very distinct possibility that the two clubs could meet in the Championship play-off final.
