Report: Despite nightmare Liverpool spell, West Ham could bring 27-yo midfielder back to the PL

West Ham United could be set to make a real surprise signing of a former Liverpool player in the summer transfer window.

The upcoming summer transfer window is sure to be an exceptionally exciting one for the West Ham fans, and we seemingly could be in for a player who failed miserably at Liverpool last season.

David Moyes has a lot of work to do this summer, if he is still in charge at the London Stadium of course! Up to 12 players are being linked with an exit from the club, and whilst all of those won’t leave, the vast majority of them may well do.

The Scot needs to strengthen in pretty much every single department of his squad. It’s well known that we need a new number nine, as well as full-backs on both sides.

A new physically robust centre-back with pace is an absolute must, whilst the additions of a new left and right winger will be absolute necessities.

However, there is one area that’s being overlooked in my view – central midfield. Moyes needs to bring in some proper competition and cover for Edson Alvarez, because Kalvin Phillips won’t be signed permanently.

And with that in mind, the Hammers boss appears to be lining up a signing that would really raise some eyebrows…

West Ham could sign midfielder in the summer transfer window

Moyes needs to add some athleticism, dynamism, mobility and real energy to his engine room this summer.

The current options he has available to him do not offer any of those qualities, and he has to address that before the start of next season.

That’s what makes his latest target so surprising…

West Ham apparently want to sign Fiorentina midfielder Arthur Melo this summer, according to a report from Tutto Juve.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan with Fiorentina but is still owned by Juventus, with the Turin side asking for around £17 million for him.

Arthur endured a disastrous spell with Liverpool last season. He managed just 13 minutes under Jurgen Klopp, and clearly didn’t impress the German during training.

The Brazilian is technically gifted but just isn’t built for the Premier League what with his lack of physicality and zero mobility.

West Ham shouldn’t be going anywhere near him in the summer transfer window. I would be hugely surprised if Moyes signed him this summer.
