Report: West Ham now plan to sign 26-year-old who Newcastle United want on a free this summer

Newcastle United have competed with West Ham United for a lot of signings in recent years, and this summer could be no different.

As recently as January, both sides were trying to complete a loan deal for Kalvin Phillips. In the end, it was West Ham who came out on top – although you could argue Newcastle were the actual winners given how poor he has been.

During the summer, Newcastle landed Harvey Barnes ahead of the Hammers, while James Ward-Prowse was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park before heading to the London Stadium.

And for all that Bruno Guimaraes wants Lucas Paqueta at Newcastle, it was West Ham who bought him in 2022.

Now another transfer battle could be on the horizon, with both clubs having eyes on the same central defender.

Newcastle interested in signing Fulham defender this summer

Following injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, Newcastle are desperately in need of defensive reinforcements this summer.

And with profit and sustainability rules set to be an issue again, the chance to get Premier League proven players on a free transfer is massively appealing.

That is why Newcastle want to sign Lloyd Kelly, who is keen on a move from Bournemouth to Tyneside. And it is also why Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo is on Eddie Howe’s radar.

He is also on course to become a free agent, and could be a good addition to the Newcastle squad. However, we appear to have competition for his signature.

West Ham also want to sign Tosin Adarabioyo

According to Miguel Delaney’s newsletter for the Independent ‘Reading The Game‘, West Ham are planning to sign Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham this summer.

David Moyes’ side have entered the race to sign the 26-year-old, and there is a worry that West Ham could have an advantage over Newcastle.

That is because the defender would not have to relocate. He would be able to keep living in London, which might swing the pendulum in West Ham’s favour ahead of Newcastle.

It is certainly a concern, and European football could also come into the equation. West Ham are currently one place above us in the Premier League table, and whichever side qualifies for Europe might become the favourites to sign Tosin.

There are plenty of scenarios to consider when it comes to Newcastle’s interest in Tosin, and West Ham’s sudden interest certainly complicates matters.
