'Real surprise': Wolves boss Gary O'Neil now shares what has shocked him about Nottingham Forest

Gary O’Neil has now shared what shocks him about Nottingham Forest this season – as he prepares to take his Wolves side to the City Ground on Saturday.

Nottingham Forest and Wolves played out a 1-1 draw at Molineux back in December, with Harry Toffolo getting on the scoresheet for the Reds.

However, a similar result will hardly do Nottingham Forest any favours this time around, as only four goals separate Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side from Luton in 18th place.

So, what about Nottingham Forest has shocked Gary O’Neil? Let’s take a look…

Gary O’Neil shocked by Nottingham Forest

Well, the man from Beckenham cannot believe Nottingham Forest are languishing down in 17th place.

O’Neil admitted in his press conference earlier on Friday that he expected a lot more from the Reds this season, especially given the level of investment from Evangelos Marinakis.

The 40-year-old is quoted by the BBC as saying: “When I look at the depth they have and the money they’ve spent, it’s a real surprise that they are where they are.”

In truth, we have to agree.

Nottingham Forest’s recruitment over the summer appeared to be very promising, as electric wingers such as Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi arrived to strengthen the attack.

A top midfield talent also joined in Ibrahim Sangare – a player who was delivering for PSV Eindhoven in UEFA Champions League qualification before moving to the City Ground in a £30m deal.

Unfortunately, Steve Cooper could not create a cohesive unit with these new signings, and Nuno has also struggled to put together a winning run despite the talent available to him.

Relegation would cause chaos

As aforesaid, Nottingham Forest own some excellent footballers, who would presumably look to stay in the Premier League – or another major European league – if relegation does happen.

It means dropping into the Championship is likely to cause real chaos in terms of player turnover at the City Ground, with gems such as Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo surely departing in that scenario.

Tottenham are one side who could well bid for Gibbs-White, even if Nottingham Forest survive.

Hopefully, relegation does not happen, or else Marinakis will most likely have to oversee another busy summer at the City Ground in terms of incomings and outgoings.
