Man who kidnapped, sexually assaulted woman in N.J. university dorm room sentenced

A man who admitted kidnapping a woman and sexually assaulting her inside a Fairleigh Dickinson dorm room last year was sentenced Friday to 15 years in state prison, authorities said.

On April 9, 2023, Jayshawn E. Moore, 22, of Jersey City, forced the woman into the room, threatened her and then physically and sexually assaulted her over the course of several hours while armed with a knife, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

Moore is not affiliated with the university and the woman he assaulted was known to him, the office said.

Moore was arrested two days later and charged with two counts of kidnapping, four counts of aggravated sexual assault, burglary, terroristic threats and weapons offenses, officials said.

He ultimately pleaded guilty to first degree kidnapping and first degree aggravated sexual assault on Oct. 25, investigators said.

Moore has been held in the Morris County Correctional Facility since his arrest and will now remain in jail until at least 85% of his sentence is spent, the office said. At that time he will be eligible for parole.

Once he is released from jail, he will be registered as a sex offender and will be subject to parole supervision for life, authorities said.
