Man charged in triple shooting in Trenton where one died

A Trenton man is facing charges in connection with a triple-shooting that left two injured and one man dead.

Kareem Pygum, 43, was arrested April 10, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Trenton police responded to a shooting in the 500 block of N. Clinton Avenue April 4 shortly after 8 p.m. and found a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and a woman who was shot in the shoulder, authorities said.

Both were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Jose Alfredo Azcona-Garcia died days later.

Throughout the course of their investigation, authorities said they later found a third victim who was grazed by a bullet on the left cheek.

Pygum was charged with murder, attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and three weapons offenses authorities said.

The prosecutor’s office did not say how they identified Pygum as the suspect. During his arrest, police say they found him in possession of a firearm and a small amount of crack cocaine and filed additional charges based on those possessions.

The prosecutor’s office is seeking to have Pygum detained pending trial.

The investigation is ongoing.
