'Marinakis was up out of his seat': Journalist says 77th minute moment upset Nottingham Forest owner vs Wolves

Evangelos Marinakis watched on from inside the City Ground today as Nottingham Forest were held to a 2-2 draw by Wolves.

A mistake from Matz Sels allowed Matheus Cunha to prod in his second goal of the game, cancelling out a strike from Danilo which looked to have set Nottingham Forest on the way to a vital 2-1 win.

However, there was one moment which didn’t even involve a goal which left Evangelos Marinakis going berserk in the stands…

Evangelos Marinakis seen reacting angrily to 77th minute moment

Well, the 56-year-old was livid with Craig Pawson today, as spotted by Paul Taylor of The Athletic.

Marinakis could be seen losing it after Morgan Gibbs-White was not only denied a freekick against Wolves, but actually ended up receiving a yellow card in the 77th minute after chucking the ball away in frustration.

Taylor wrote: “Referee Craig Pawson shows MGW a yellow card for bouncing the ball away in disgust. He thought he had been fouled, only for a foul to be given against him. NFFC owner Evangelos Marinakis was up out of his seat at that, as well.”

While that moment reflected badly on Pawson, nobody can blame the 45-year-old for today’s result.

A combination of sloppy defending and poor decision making on the attack was instead the reason for Nottingham Forest throwing two points away today.

Nottingham Forest must be more savvy

In a relegation battle as tense as this, you cannot be picking up silly bookings for throwing the ball away like Gibbs-White did, nor can you defend as casually as Nottingham Forest did today – there has to be a more savvy side to Nuno’s team.

As soon as Danilo put the Reds 2-1 up, we should have seen the dark arts come into play.

Nuno has to teach his side how to kill a game off, run down the clock and frustrate opponents – instead, Nottingham Forest just kept playing openly as they did while the scores were level, and eventually gifted Wolves a soft equaliser.

That is more acceptable to do in the first half of the season, but at this stage of the campaign, it could be the difference between relegation and survival.
