Journalist wowed by 'excellent' Derby County duo v Orient, one of them dominated the crossing statistic

Derby County earned another crucial three points in their quest for promotion on Saturday.

Derby County took another step towards the Championship with a confident 3-0 win at home to Leyton Orient in League One on Saturday.

The Rams had a two-goal lead at half-time owing to an owner goal from George Moncur, then a Sonny Bradley goal after 18 minutes.

Bradley then scored a second after the break, and his third goal of the season to wrap up the win for Paul Warne‘s side.

Derby County remain in 2nd place of the League One table; five points behind leaders Portsmouth who still have a game in hand.

Bolton and Pompey drew 1-1 on Saturday, whilst Peterborough United in 3rd were thumped 5-0 at Oxford United.

Warne’s Derby have just two games left to go now, with a trip to Cambridge United next weekend, finishing against Carlisle United at Pride Park.

Derby were once again class all over the pitch.

But journalist Leigh Curtis believes Bradley and Louie Sibley were the standouts.

Bradley has been a rock at the back this season and his return to the side today showed his class, whilst also showing his nouse for goal.

Sibley provided the assist for Bradley’s first goal and was up and down the left flank throughout, causing Leyton Orient problems and contributing to the game both going forward and back.

Derbyshire Live journalist Curtis posted on X:

As per Sofascore, Bradley won 9 out of 12 duels (fourth most among Derby players), with 16 accurate passes, and 6 defensive actions (second most for Derby, with 2 clearances, 2 interceptions, 1 clearance and 1 block).

Sibley meanwhile made 4 tackles (second most of anyone on the pitch), also completing more crosses than anyone (4 out of 7).

Experience will be crucial next season

Whether the Rams are promoted or not, keeping experienced players like Bradley and also Sibley, will be key.

Bradley has been there and done it all.

Sibley though, despite being 22, feels like a senior player in this Derby side, with 171 total appearances to his name in black and white.

And it’s not been all easy for Sibley who’s had his critics at times; it feels like an age since Sibley broke onto the scene in the 2019/20 season, with the Englishman now notably a wing-back and not a striker.

But he’ll be eager to get his team over the line and have another crack at the Championship, and so too will Bradley who was let go by Luton Town last year.

The job is far from done for Warne and Derby County, but they’re certainly heading in the right direction.
