Report: Chelsea are prioritising other targets over £50m player, he could now join Manchester United instead

One Premier League star could join Manchester United instead of their rivals Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea will want to strengthen their squad in the next transfer window after the season that they have had.

The Blues lost the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at the end of February and are currently ninth in the table.

In terms of where they could strengthen, left-back is one area. Ben Chilwell has struggled to stay fit this season, while Marc Cucurella has reportedly been offered to Real Madrid.

Chelsea could also bring in another striker before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea prioritising other targets over £50m star

Defensively, Chelsea have obviously not been great recently. They conceded two goals last time out against Sheffield United and three in their 4-3 win versus Manchester United the game before that.

Next season, if Mauricio Pochettino‘s side want to do better, then they have to improve there.

However, it is also clear to see that they need to improve in attack as well, having scored 55 times in the Premier League this season, which is fewer than what the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool have all managed.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney could help them in that department, but according to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea are prioritising other strikers over the 28-year-old, who could cost £50m this summer.

The same outlet claims that Manchester United could now be a potential destination for Toney instead.

Should Chelsea allow Ivan Toney to join Manchester United this summer?

If the Blues are going to land another top centre-forward like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, then the answer is it does not matter.

But if not, then they have to complicate things for Manchester United and bring Toney in for themselves.

As mentioned earlier, Chelsea really need to add more goals to their squad, and Toney can help them to do that.

The England international scored 21 goals for Brentford last term, showing that he is a capable striker.
