Report: £51m player is no longer keen on joining Barcelona amid interest from Chelsea

Chelsea may not have to worry about Barcelona this summer if they want to sign one attacking midfielder.

Conor Gallagher has occupied the No.10 role this season and it is a position that Cole Palmer can also play in.

However, it looks like Chelsea could try and strengthen there when the transfer window opens.

It is probably Palmer’s best position, but the 21-year-old has still thrived playing out on the right this season.

In 37 appearances for Chelsea, he has scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists.

Chelsea target no longer dreaming about Barcelona

With Mauricio Pochettino playing Palmer on the right and Gallagher possibly departing at the end of the season, Chelsea may very well have to dip into the transfer market to sign a new attacking midfielder.

Gallagher’s contract expires in 2025 and it has been claimed by journalist Ben Jacobs that Tottenham Hotspur hold an interest in the Englishman.

So who could come in to replace Gallagher if Chelsea are forced to sell him this summer?

Well according to FootballTransfers, the Blues have already opened talks with RB Leipzig over a potential deal for Dani Olmo.

Like Palmer, Olmo has mostly played out wide this term but is naturally a No.10.

Bild reports that the 25-year-old used to consider Barcelona his dream destination but his desire to join them has grown cold. The same outlet also claims that he has a €60m (£51m) release clause in his contract.

Dani Olmo’s stats

This season, Olmo has made 21 appearances, scored seven goals and assisted another five.

The Spain international does not exactly have a record like Palmer’s. However, the fact that he can play in multiple positions in the frontline makes him an appealing option.

And being a natural attacker, unlike Gallagher, you would expect Olmo to be an upgrade on the 24-year-old.

If you are a Chelsea fan, he is a name to watch this summer, especially if Gallagher does depart.
