Crystal Palace injury latest and expected return dates for Liverpool including Marc Guehi update

Take a look at all the latest Crystal Palace injury news as Oliver Glasner prepares to take on title challengers Liverpool at Anfield.

Crystal Palace have been handed a whole host of injury concerns throughout the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

With key stars missing and relegation concerns, it has hardly been an easy season for the supporters at Selhurst Park.

However, with new boss Oliver Glasner in charge and an injury list that is starting to dwindle, there is some hope of a strong finish.

That does come within a tough run of fixtures though, with the next challenge coming against title challengers Liverpool at Anfield.

There are some promising updates from Glasner on his squad though, so with that said, here’s a look at the latest Crystal Palace injury news.

Crystal Palace injury list

Fortunately for Crystal Palace, head coach Glasner has confirmed that there are no new injury concerns before the Liverpool game.

Michael Olise is nearing a return to the starting line-up, with Jairo Riedewald in contention for the squad.

Marc Guehi is set to miss the match at Anfield but he is moving closer towards playing again this season.

Chris Richards, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Matheus Franca could return to the squad in the coming weeks, while Sam Johnstone, Chieck Doucoure and Rob Holding appear to be longer-term problems that may persist for the rest of the season.

Michael Olise made his long-awaited return from injury as he featured from the bench against Manchester City. Given the importance of the forward, some caution will be exercised, though Glasner admitted the youngster could start his first game since injury soon.

The manager told the official club website: “He’s [Olise] closer [to starting] than the week before. He had the whole week training with us…

“It’s been a really good week and Michael was part of it, so he’s close to starting.”

Expected return date: Liverpool (A) – April 14.

Jairo Riedewald injury latest

Midfielder Jairo Riedewald has been absent from the Palace squad since February, but appears to be back in line to face Liverpool.

Glasner told the media: “We have no new injuries, but Jaïro [Riedewald] is coming back. He trained the whole week with us and he could be in the squad on Sunday.

“You always have to be careful because if a player is out for five, six or seven weeks, and it’s not like he can have one week’s training and play 90 minutes. He will have to find his rhythm, like all the other injured players.”

Expected return date: Liverpool (A) – April 14.

Marc Guehi injury latest

Key defender Marc Guehi suffered a knee injury in the clash with Brighton, which has since required minor surgery.

Fortunately, it appears as though the centre-back is nearing a return as Glasner confirmed: “I can’t say when, but he’s [Guehi] working hard, we’re working hard, and of course we give our best.

“It’s a week where we have three games, so maybe it’s the week after, but we hope, at latest, against Manchester United.”

Expected return date: Manchester United (H) – May 6.

Chris Richards injury latest

Chris Richards had shown his credentials in the backline, while filling in for injuries, only to suffer with an injury himself.

The USMNT international suffered a knee problem that has ruled him out of the Liverpool game, but could see him return in late April – depending on his recovery.

Expected return date: Fulham (A) – April 27.

Youngster Matheus Franca has suffered with some groin pain, which has kept him out of action in recent weeks.

There were hopes of a return for the playmaker in late March or early April, however pain was still occurring when increasing intensity in training.

Expected return date: Unknown.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi injury latest

Academy graduate Jesurun Rak-Sakyi would have been hopeful of a breakthrough campaign, but a lack of minutes and injuries have halted that.

The youngster was handed a setback in his recovery from another absence back in February, though there will be hopes of a return soon.

Expected return date: Unknown.

Sam Johnstone injury latest

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone suffered an elbow injury while on international duty with England in the March internationals.

Elbow surgery was required and that means he is ruled out for the rest of the season, leaving the position open to Dean Henderson.

There will be hope of a return during pre-season, making the number one choice ready to start the new campaign.

Expected return date: Unknown.

Rob Holding injury latest

Summer signing Rob Holding has struggled to make an impact in the first-team since his arrival from London rivals Arsenal.

The centre-back then suffered an ankle injury in January, which has since required surgery and left him sidelined for a number of months.

There is a possibility of a return in the final few games, though there are still stages left of recovery before then.

Expected return date: Unknown.

Cheick Doucoure injury latest

The midfielder signed a new long-term deal with Crystal Palace in February, but it is unlikely that he will return this season.

Expected return date: Unknown.
