'Wow!': Gary Lineker drops 'incredible' verdict after Crystal Palace's shock win over Liverpool

Crystal Palace earned a host of praise from pundit Gary Lineker this afternoon after beating Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield to cause an upset in the title race.

It was an afternoon to remember for Crystal Palace on Sunday, as the Eagles became the first club to beat Liverpool at Anfield this season in the Premier League.

A first-half goal from Eberechi Eze was enough to ensure that Oliver Glasner’s side took three points back to South London, with their attacking efforts far from their greatest asset against Jurgen Klopp’s title-challengers.

Having faced 21 shots on goal, Palace were able to suppress any of Liverpool’s best efforts in the final third to become the first side to win and keep a clean sheet at Anfield since March 2021.

Defensively, Glasner’s makeshift back five made the hosts’ afternoon a nightmare, with many applauding the overall performance of the visitors in what was a shock result in the Premier League.

Gary Lineker shares his verdict on ‘incredible’ Crystal Palace win over Liverpool

One footballing figure who was left impressed by Palace was pundit Gary Lineker, who took to Twitter X to share his verdict on the Eagles’ display.

“Wow! What a performance from CPFC. Incredible all over the pitch.”

Incredible was certainly an accurate depiction of Palace’s performance at Anfield, as the visitors arrived as the underdogs and left as the winners against the odds.

While Liverpool dominated with a total of 21 shots, the Eagles were just behind the hosts when it came to recording shots on target, having five shots on target to the Reds’ six, via Sofascore.

The statistics tell the story of just how strong Palace were in all areas of the pitch, supporting Lineker’s high praise of Glasner’s side.

Oliver Glasner will now want to build on the Liverpool victory

After winning against Liverpool in arguably one of the toughest games in a Premier League season, Glasner will want to build on the three points and do something that Palace have failed to do all term.

Since the 2023/24 opener, the Eagles are yet to secure back-to-back wins in the league, telling of their terrible form throughout this campaign.

While the win over Liverpool won’t disguise the horrors that Palace have suffered this term, it could certainly inspire a strong end to the season ahead of what will be a pivotal summer for Glasner to craft his side.

Liverpool’s slip in the title race will be the primary narrative from Palace’s win however, the Eagles will earn their flowers in what was an incredibly impressive display all round on Merseyside.
