‘Phenomenal’ Tottenham Hotspur talent now wanted by relegation-bound club

Tottenham Hotspur have made a real push to bring in top young talent over recent transfer windows, hopefully setting up a bright future at the club.

We have seen young players thrive in the Tottenham first team this season with Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven playing starring roles.

Tottenham have also secured even younger talents and have another one arriving this summer in Lucas Bergvall.

The Swede has agreed to join from Djurgardens this summer and will give Tottenham another top talent for the future.

Luka Vuskovic will arrive from Hajduk Split in 2025 and is currently learning his trade in Poland with Radomiak Radom.

Tottenham are also looking closer to home though, landing the likes of Jude Soonsup-Bell and Will Lanskhear joining the club.

Ashley Phillips wanted

Then there is Ashley Phillips, who finally joined Tottenham from Blackburn Rovers last summer.

Tottenham had been chasing Phillips in 2022 and came close to a deal before the centre back ended up staying with Blackburn.

Spurs finally got the deal done last summer but Phillips failed to make a first-team appearance before heading on loan to Plymouth Argyle in January.

The 18-year-old is now wanted by Sheffield United with The Sun reporting that they are ‘looking into a swoop’ for Phillips.

We can only imagine that this would be a loan move as Tottenham would surely have no interest in selling Phillips any time soon.

The Blades are set to be relegated back to the Championship and planning may have already started as they look to launch a Championship promotion push again.

Phillips is now emerging as a target and a full season in the Championship may well fit into Tottenham’s development plan for the teenage defender.

How has Phillips fared away from Tottenham?

Phillips joined Argyle on loan under former England youth coach Ian Foster and has now started 14 Championship games as well as making two substitute appearances.

Foster was recently sacked though and Phillips was dropped to the bench against Leicester City on Friday night.

Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally was blown away in January, backing Phillips to become a ‘superstar’ down the line.

Phillips was branded ‘phenomenal’ by Tony Mowbray at Blackburn and it’s clear that he still has huge potential, but Tottenham will be looking to choose his next loan club carefully.

Playing for a promotion-chasing team may be the next step for Phillips after featuring for a relegation-threatened side and Sheffield United can offer that prospect.
