What the English media are now saying about Eric Dier after Bayern Munich’s draw against Arsenal

Eric Dier was subject of discussion with the English media following his display for Bayern Munich last night against Arsenal.

The 30-year-old left Tottenham Hotspur on loan in the January transfer window to reunite with Harry Kane in Germany.

It has already been confirmed that Bayern will be making Eric Dier‘s stay at the Allianz Arena permanent ahead of the summer.

Bayern return to Munich ahead of next week’s second leg having earned themselves a 2-2 draw against Mikel Arteta’s side.

Spurs fans were delighted to see Kane get on the scoresheet yet again against Arsenal as he became the top goalscorer against the Gunners at the Emirates.

However, the English media have now provided their verdict on Dier’s display on his return to north London last night.

Having struggled for minutes under Ange Postecoglou, the Englishman now finds himself starting for the German giants.

Spurs fans will be intrigued by David Ornstein’s verdict on Dier’s performance

The appointment of Postecoglou has seen Daniel Levy sanction a number of signings over the summer and winter window for the Australian.

Two of the arrivals have provided an upgrade in Tottenham’s options at centre-back with the arrival of Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin.

Naturally, that saw Dier’s role in the squad reduced and he was only able to rack up a mere 198 minutes of football in the Premier Legaue.

However, he has enjoyed his time in Germany having already played 753 minutes of Bundesliga football and received a standing ovation from the Bayern fans.

And he started once again on Tuesday night in Bayern’s Champions League game against Arsenal.

Playing against a side he knows very well, journalist David Ornstein gave Dier a glowing review when speaking on Sky Sports in the wake of the game.

“They showed tonight that they do have the quality, the threat and the danger. A word for Eric Dier in defence, as well, I thought he was excellent alongside De Ligt and showed that they’ve got the solidity too.”

Concerning stats that show Spurs made right call to offload Dier

Although Dier did receive praise from Ornstein for his display at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night there were still some flaws in his game.

Bayern would have likely taken a 2-2 draw had they been offered it prior to the game given their poor recent record in the Bundesliga.

Here is a rundown of Dier’s return to north London.

  • 90 minutes played
  • 0 tackles
  • 5 clearances
  • 0 interceptions
  • 41/61 passses completed
  • 16X lost possession
  • 6/14 successful long balls

Ornstein may have been impressed with what he saw from Dier, but it is unlikely Spurs will have been watching on with regret in selling him given the levels Van de Ven has already showed.
