'He was': Micah Richards delivers his honest verdict on Morgan Rogers performance for Aston Villa vs Arsenal

Micah Richards has delivered his verdict on Aston Villa youngster Morgan Rogers after his display at Arsenal on Sunday.

Aston Villa caused a major upset at the Emirates Stadium by picking up a 2-0 win over title contenders Arsenal.

Unai Emery’s side were good value for the three points after a dominant second-half display.

Ollie Watkins struck the post in the first half as Villa were on the back foot for large periods of the opening 45 minutes.

But the Villains came out firing after the break, with Emery’s side consistently beating the Arsenal press by playing through the lines.

They were finally rewarded in the 84th minute as Leon Bailey opened the scoring with a well-taken finish at the back post. Watkins sealed the three points with a delightful chipped effort to beat David Raya just two minutes after the opener.

Diego Carlos scooped the Player of the Match award from Gary Neville, with the former Manchester United man labelling his display as ‘immense’.

While Villa were outstanding defensively on the day, there were some excellent performances further up the pitch and Morgan Rogers caught the eye.

Richards delivers Rogers verdict after Villa beat Arsenal

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Richards lauded Rogers after an impressive display at the Emirates.

“Pau Torres, we know how good he is on the ball, but Diego Carlos really was a machine at the back and they were just inviting that pressure onto them so they could play out,” the former Villa man said.

“They got caught out sometimes but they kept doing it and Arsenal were a little bit flustered and they managed to get the ball into Morgan Rogers, and the positions he was getting into between Arsenal’s midfield and defence was outstanding.”

It was an all-action display from Rogers as he supported Watkins brilliantly throughout the game.

The 21-year-old is enjoying a run in the Villa side of late following his switch from Middlesbrough in January.

According to WhoScored, the youngster completed three dribbles against Arsenal yesterday and was dispossessed just twice.

19 of his 25 passes found their man and he picked up a 6.9 match rating.
