'Definitely': Archie Gray responds after being asked 'really difficult' question at EFL awards last night

Archie Gray was honoured during Sunday’s Football League awards as the Championship’s Young Player of the Season after a wonderful season for Leeds United – and his form is drawing attention.

Making his debut on the opening day of the season, Gray has gone on to play 46 times in league and cup for the club – whether that is at right-back or in the middle of the park. He has been utterly sensational.

That form has attracted attention from Premier League clubs, and big hitters from around Europe. But Leeds are confident he signs a new deal this summer, having already penned new terms back in January.

Leeds star Archie Gray able to play for England and Scotland

Certainly, he won’t be joining another English club amid the reports. But one decision Gray will have to make is to whether he follows in his family’s footsteps, and represents Liam Cooper’s Scotland side.

Or, he continues down the path he is seemingly heading, and plays for England when eventually given the chance. He was namedropped by England boss Gareth Southgate during the last international break.

Speaking to TalkSPORT after winning the Young Player of the Season award, Gray was asked a “really difficult” question about his international future – and he made it clear he wants to play for England.

What Gray has said, when asked who he will play for in future

“I wanted to end with a really difficult question. With your background, Eddie and Frank – are you going to play for England or Scotland?”, TalkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams asked, after winning his award on Sunday.

“My hopes are to play for England, definitely. It’s where I’m from, where I’ve grown up. I am three quarters English. My Dad, and my Grandad are totally happy. Eddie supports Scotland but he’s happy if I’m happy.”

A big decision for Gray but it seems as though he has made up his mind. Euro 2024 will come too soon, but you would think that Gray could be targeting the World Cup in 2026 as a possible first competition.

Gray though, will be focusing on the remaining three fixtures for Leeds this term. Away at Middlesbrough, away at QPR and then of course, Southampton at home on the final day. Leeds have a huge task ahead.
