‘He would fit the bill’: Jeff Stelling thinks ‘world-class’ striker would be ideal for Man United

Jeff Stelling has named the striker who he believes would be an ideal signing for Manchester United this summer.

It was another frustrating evening for Erik ten Hag on Saturday as Manchester United dropped points at the Vitality Stadium.

A brace from captain Bruno Fernandes rescued a point for United but it was another display that left a lot to be desired.

The summer window already looks crucial for the Red Devils as they prepare to kick off a new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

Whether or not Ten Hag will be the man to lead United forward remains to be seen, with a recent claim made that the Dutchman will depart this summer.

Regardless of who’s in the dugout at Old Trafford next season, there is plenty of work to be done.

United have lacked depth in key areas this term, particularly throughout the spine of their team.

And despite snapping up Rasmus Hojlund for £72 million last summer, Jeff Stelling believes the Red Devils need another top striker.

Stelling believes ‘world-class’ striker would be ideal for Man United

Ahead of what looks set to be a busy summer at Old Trafford, Stelling has claimed that Brentford’s Ivan Toney would fit the bill.

“There are so many holes to plug because you are going to need central defenders, that is for sure,” the presenter told talkSPORT.

“You are going to need some more central midfielders. You certainly need somebody else up-front, and I think Ivan Toney would fit the bill, but where does the money come from?

“That’s going to be £300 million for that lot and then the ones going out the door you are probably going to have to give most of them away, they are on such big money,” Andy Townsend responded.

Toney transfer news

The Brentford star is attracting plenty of interest ahead of the summer as he looks set to leave the Gtech Community Stadium.

Tottenham and Arsenal are said to be keen, with the ‘world-class’ striker repeatedly stating his desire for a fresh challenge.

United are lacking options up front and despite Hojlund’s upturn in form, they would benefit from a more experienced option in the squad.

Toney would certainly fit the bill as a striker who has managed 36 goals and 10 assists in 81 Premier League appearances for the Bees.

But United may have other priorities come the summer, particularly in the middle of the park and central defence.
