After Lewis Hall, Newcastle United are now close to making their second signing this summer

Newcastle United are definitely making one signing this summer, and they could now be closing in on transfer number two.

The Magpies’ 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday means that they will finish at least 14th in the Premier League this season. And that means that Newcastle United now have an obligation to sign Lewis Hall from Chelsea.

His £28million move will become official this summer, with Newcastle set to pay Chelsea £24million on top of the £4million loan fee.

The deal comes at a time when Hall is finally starting to play more in black and white, and there is suddenly much more faith in him developing into a star at St James’ Park.

The 19-year-old will be the first permanent signing during what looks set to be a summer of change on Tyneside, and it appears that Toon officials are already working hard towards completing another deal.

Newcastle United need to sign a centre-back

Even before Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles’ respective ACL injuries, Newcastle United were planning to sign a centre-back. But our need for reinforcements in that position has massively intensified now, and it appears that the club are already working towards that end.

Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer, with his Cherries contract due to expire. He is going to be available on a free transfer, and it has been reported that he would be interested in a move to St James’ Park.

Now the latest update from HITC Football suggests that a deal could be on the cards.

What has been said about Newcastle possibly signing Lloyd Kelly

According to HITC Football, Newcastle United are now the favourites to sign Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer from Bournemouth this summer.

They state that a deal between the Magpies and the 25-year-old is close, with Kelly turning down the latest contract offer from Bournemouth.

He is on course to leave the Vitality Stadium, and it looks increasingly likely that St James’ Park will be his destination. That is excellent news, as Kelly looks like he will be a good addition to Eddie Howe’s squad.

Howe has worked with Kelly before and spoken highly of him, while the fact that he can play at centre-back and left-back makes him even more appealing. Combine that with it being a free transfer at a time when Newcastle are toeing the line of profit and sustainability and it sounds like a perfect deal.

Newcastle look likely to miss out on another defensive target

But another centre-back who Newcastle have been looking at on a free could be heading elsewhere.

Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo has been linked with a move up north, while West Ham entered the race to sign him last week.

However, the same report from HITC Football states that Tottenham Hotspur are actually the favourites to sign him right now.

Based on how Spurs defended at St James’ Park on Saturday, they clearly need Tosin more than we do!
