Former President Donald Trump said he would testify during his criminal trial that's set to begin in New York on Monday, and CNN legal analyst Jeremy Saland said that would be a dream come true for prosecutors.
There is ample reason to doubt that Trump will really testify, of course, given that he vowed to also testify in the New York civil fraud trial before backing out of it.
That said, Saland argued that Trump could be prosecutors' best witness should he disregard his lawyers' advice and testify under oath at the hush-money case in the coming weeks.

"The man is so bombastic and uncontrollable that he could sink his own ship," he said.

He then predicted prosecutors would love to put Trump on the hot seat and get him to "contradict himself... go on a tirade, alienate the jury."
Saland emphasized that Trump is "ripe for prosecution to be cross-examined."
Many legal analysts have said that Trump's temper could seriously hurt him in this upcoming trial, which revolves around allegations that he falsified business records to hide hush-money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.
On his Truth Social platform Monday, Trump hurled angry invective over the trial and accused Judge Juan Merchan of being "crooked" for issuing a gag order that restricted him from attacking witnesses and family members of court staff.
"The Radical Left Democrats are already cheating on the 2024 Presidential Election by bringing, or helping to bring, all of these bogus lawsuits against me, thereby forcing me to sit in courthouses, and spend money that could be used for campaigning, instead of being out in the field knocking Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST President in the History of the United States," read one Trump post. "Election Interference!"
