Woman accidentally ruins her friend's engagement video with lack of attention span

Marriage proposals are a complicated business in their own right but if you’re hoping to have the moment captured forever on video, that will only add an extra layer of complexity as one unfortunate woman found out after being asked to record her friend’s engagement.

TikTok user Mary Dawson (@marydawsonl) has shared her embarrassing failure on the social media site and her video has since gone viral, earning over 29.2 million views.

Woman ruins engagement video to record furry intruder

The jaw-dropping video begins as you’d expect, with Mary filming the loved-up couple as the boyfriend is about to bend down on one knee and pop the question.

However, just as the boyfriend reaches into his pocket, Mary’s attention is drawn to something outside the garden where the proposal is taking place.

The camera pans around to show a raccoon lurking on the other side of the chain link fence and Mary’s attention is fixated on it for only a few moments – seven seconds to be exact.

But those seven seconds prove to be catastrophic. As the camera returns to the couple, they’re already sharing a passionate hug. The big moment has been missed.

Thankfully for Mary, it seems as though her friend saw the funny side of raccoon-gate.

Speaking in the comments of her video, the TikTok user said: “She told me herself that should we have never looked back at that video but now since I recorded the raccoon, she’s definitely going to.

“And of course, I felt horrible about it, but she thought it was hilarious. There was someone else taking live pictures and she’s also the most carefree person ever.”

Commenters react to engagement blunder

It’s safe to say that Mary’s video error has sparked quite a reaction from social media users.

The influencer Danielle Sylvester commented on the video saying: “I seriously hope you showed them the raccoon in person after they did that thing on one knee. Nothing like seeing an animal in their habitat.”

To which Mary responded: “The raccoon actually crawled on top of their roof as we were celebrating.”

Fellow content creator Dylan Mulvaney said: “I woulda laughed so hard.”

“You literally had one job,” commented another TikTok user. “L friend.”

Over on Instagram, one commenter joked: “Self-control of an actual child.”

A second added: “If ADHD was a video.”

“Guess who’s NOT getting invited 😂,” said a third.

And finally, this person offered some sage advice: “Honestly, that’s why you should always have more than one person recording.”
