Cambridge United head coach Garry Monk will switch focus to out of contract players once Sky Bet League One survival is confirmed

Cambridge United head coach Garry Monk has insisted that he has ‘not really put any energy’ into thinking about the players who are set to be out of contract at the end of the season.

As it stands, the likes of Elias Kachunga, Lyle Taylor, Ryan Bennett and Jordan Cousins will all leave the club in the summer unless an agreement over an extension can be reached.

However, with work still to be done to ensure that the U’s are playing Sky Bet League One football again next season, Monk’s full focus is currently on completing the job in hand.

He said: “I’m aware but I’ve not really put any energy into that, just because everyone is needed here now and what we need to do.

“We’ve made some steps towards where we need to be, but we’re not anywhere near where we want to be. I’m just focused on these players that are here this season for sure.”

United can secure their third tier status this evening with a win at Bristol Rovers alongside Port Vale losing at home to Wycombe Wanderers and Cheltenham Town failing to overcome Burton Albion.
