Report: Man City have already held talks to sign £60m Premier League defender, Arsenal also want to sign him

It has been reported that Manchester City have already held talks to sign a defender in the Premier League.

The biggest and best clubs in the world like City do not prefer to make last-minute decisions in the transfer window.

More often than not, such calls tend to have a damaging effect.

Not only in terms of the club in question not getting the profile of the player they ideally wished to sign.

But it also becomes difficult to move such players on, as other clubs often have little to no interest in signing them due to their high wages and poor performances.

Perhaps one of the only exceptions was Ruben Dias, who was signed quite late into the summer transfer window of 2020.

Man City held talks to sign £60 million Premier League defender

Dias only made his debut after City’s first two Premier League games were played.

Joining the Sky Blues right after their 5-2 mauling at the hands of Leicester City, it was evident that their defence needed improving.

The Portuguese international instantly provided that, despite not being their first choice among centre-back targets but since then, he has become a pillar of City’s success.

However, not every late transfer proves to be as much of a hit as the Sky Blues’ number three.

As a result, Pep Guardiola’s men are often heard having a set list of transfer targets and making moves behind the scenes to sign them months before the summer window kicks off.

This time around, Football Transfers have reported that Manchester City have already opened talks with Wolves to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri, who is valued at £60 million by Gary O’Neil’s side.

The report claims that when City were discussing a move to sign Ait-Nouri, the possibility of Sergio Gomez heading to the Molineux Stadium in a player-plush-cash deal was proposed.

Having been a bit-part player once again this season, Gomez is believed to be open to an exit.

It has also been stated that Manchester City might have an advantage over teams like Arsenal and Liverpool, who are also believed to be interested in signing Rayan Ait-Nouri.

That is the club’s “strong relationship” with Jorge Mendes, who represents the Algerian left-back.

Pep Guardiola is said to be keen on signing an attacking left-back and the 22-year-old is preferred by the treble-winners to Antonee Robinson.

Matheus Nunes could help the Sky Blues land Rayan Ait-Nouri

With the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly interested in Rayan Ait-Nouri, he must be scratching his head over which club to join in case he decides to leave Wolves.

However, where City might have an advantage over their title rivals is due to Matheus Nunes.

Having spent nearly a season at the Etihad Stadium, Nunes could give an insight to Ait-Nouri about being coached by Guardiola, the culture of the club, his teammates, the trials and tribulations and life in Manchester.

As a result, Rayan Ait-Nouri could end up picking Manchester City as his choice of destination if he is told by the Portuguese midfielder what to expect.

To get such a full picture would likely be appreciated by the youngster, which he may not get if Arsenal or Liverpool step up their interest in him.
