Nottinghamshire County Council deploy incident response and traffic lights after sinkhole opens up on Southwell road

Drivers have been warned to expect delays after a sinkhole opened up on a busy town centre road.

The sinkhole appeared yesterday (April 15) at Market Place/Westhorpe, Southwell, near the Saracens Head hotel.

Highways authority Nottinghamshire County Council deployed its incident response team to cordon off the hole, and temporary traffic lights were installed yesterday evening.

The council has warned motorists there may be delays due to the three-way lights — although they will be manually controlled at peak times.

Southwell Town Council also alerted residents to the hole, and, in a Facebook post, stated: “Avoid the area where possible outside Saracens Head just prior to mini roundabout.”

Nottingham City Transport’s 26 service buses are continuing to run on their usual route along the road.
