‘An upgrade’: Michael Owen says there are three strikers in the Premier League who’d improve Arsenal now

Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker this summer is one of the main talking points at the Emirates right now.

The Gunners do need a new centre-forward who can get a goal from nowhere and show up in the big moments.

As much as Gabriel Jesus is a talented footballer, you wouldn’t call him a natural finisher, and his lack of goalscoring instinct has cost Arsenal on a number of occasions.

So, who should Arsenal sign this summer? Well, while a number of international and European options have been linked, according to Michael Owen, speaking on Premier League Productions, there are three strikers in the Premier League currently who would improve Arsenal right now.

The three strikers who would improve Arsenal

Owen shared his verdict on Arsenal’s hunt for a new number nine when discussing Ollie Watkins.

“He is a player who is getting better and better year on year. He is, as Theo mentioned, he is the type who could go into the Arsenal team, whether or not they could buy him? There are a lot of players in the Premier League at the moment who would probably be an upgrade on what they have. You’re looking at Isak up at Newcastle, maybe Ivan Toney at Brentford and Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa,” Owen said.

Arsenal could sign Ivan Toney

Owen is spot on, all three of these strikers would improve Arsenal, and, invariably, they have all been linked with a move to the Emirates.

However, whether or not these players are attainable is another matter entirely.

Alexander Isak is the jewel in the crown of the richest football club on the planet, while Ollie Watkins is a prized asset for Aston Villa who are looking to push on further in the coming years.

Ivan Toney seems to be the most attainable of these three players as his contract ticks down and Brentford continue to struggle, but Arsenal’s interest in Toney is said to be waning.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Arsenal do in terms of finding a new striker this summer.
