Una Crown murder: Wisbech man David Newton to enter plea after being charged with pensioner’s murder at Cambridge Crown Court later this week

A 69-year-old accused of murdering Una Crown 11 years ago will enter a plea when he appears at crown court later this week.

David Newton, of Magazine Close in Wisbech, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Newton is accused of the murder of 86-year-old retired postmistress Mrs Crown, who was found dead in her home also on Magazine Close on January 13, 2013.

Mrs Crown had been stabbed in the neck and chest multiple times and was set on fire.

Newton was arrested yesterday on suspicion of her murder and has since been charged. He was held in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough.

Newton is set to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday (April 18) where he will enter his plea.

Detectives are re-appealing for help to solve the murder of pensioner Una Crown 11 years on.

Mrs Crown’s death was initially treated as unexplained, but after a post-mortem examination, it was concluded that she had died from stab wounds to her neck and chest.

She had not been seen alive since Friday, January 11, when she was caught on CCTV leaving a supermarket.

Mrs Crown had spoken to a friend over the phone at about 5pm on the Saturday, the day before she was discovered by police.

Una Crown was killed in her bungalow home in Magazine Lane.
The last sighting of Una was on a shopping trip.

Last year - 10 years since Mrs Crown’s murder \- police offered a £20,000 Crimestoppers reward for information which appeared on national television.
