'He's been excellent': 21-year-old Inter Miami talent is now thriving after difficult start - pundit

Matt Doyle has claimed one 21-year-old Inter Miami talent has been ‘excellent’ in MLS this season after a difficult start to life in Florida.

The Herons have seen a dramatic transformation in the last 12 months with the arrivals of Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, with the appointment of Tata Martino and the winter transfer of Luis Suarez also taking Inter Miami to new heights.

Whilst these individual moves have taken the Florida franchise to the top of the MLS standings, the likes of Messi and Suarez have helped bring the best out of players who were already in the squad, namely Benjamin Cremaschi and Robert Taylor.

Yet one player has also seen his game taken to a whole new level this season after a hard start.

Diego Gomez praised after transforming Inter Miami career around

Speaking on MLS’s Extratime podcast, pundit Doyle highlighted just how good Diego Gomez has been this season after fully recovering from a long-term injury and winning a spot in Martino’s Inter Miami system.

The 21-year-old Paraguay international has been one of Inter Miami’s most productive players this season, with Gomez scoring and assisting on Saturday against Sporting Kansas City, winning praise from Martino after the match.

And Doyle is the latest expert to put Gomez on a pedestal, with the Inter Miami youngster really proving this season that he can flourish alongside the best in Messi and Suarez for the Herons.

Doyle said: “Diego Gomez had himself quite a day, it took him a while to live up to those expectations that he brought with him when he was signed last summer, I thought he struggled in those first dozen games, but he’s been excellent this year whether he’s played in midfield or the wing.”

Diego Gomez is finally showing the world what he is capable of

Gomez arrived in Florida as one of the most exciting prospects in South America, and after injuries and poor form last year, the versatile midfielder is finally showing the world what he is capable of this season.

The 21-year-old looks like a shoo-in to make the move to Europe in the next 18 months alongside the likes of Cremaschi and fellow Inter Miami youngster Federico Redondo.

And for Martino, he will want Gomez to keep up this level of form for as long as possible, with the Paraguay international really coming into his element this season with Inter Miami.
