What Ange Postecoglou was shouting at Heung-min Son during Tottenham’s defeat vs Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was seen shouting at his captain Heung-min Son during their defeat on the weekend.

For the second year in a row, it was a 90 minutes to forget for Tottenham in their trip to the north east to play Newcastle United.

Ange Postecoglou‘s men were left with egg on their face again in another dismal display on Tyneside which did not see any of their players come out of the game with any credit.

And one player who was on the receiving end of the Australian’s wrath was the captain, Heung-min Son, with the frontline disappointing once again.

It has been a difficult past few games for the South Korean who has had a largely exceptional season under the Australian.

But it was apparent tempers were boiling over at St. James’ Park on Saturday as Tottenham’s hold of the top four slipped away from them.

Postecoglou forced to shout at his own captain during Newcastle defeat

The game on Saturday provided Tottenham with the opportunity to pull three points – provisionally – clear of Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s men took all three points from their game on Sunday against Arsenal which some Spurs fans will have enjoyed.

However, the weekend’s results just summed up Tottenham’s stuttering last few months of football.

Son has now failed to find the back of the net in his last three games and has only returned one goal in his last five.

Here is a breakdown of his display vs Newcastle.

  • 58 minutes played
  • 0 shots
  • 28 touches
  • 2 key passes
  • 0 crosses
  • 7X lost possession
  • 4X was fouled

Losing Harry Kane was a huge blow for Spurs last summer, but the goals have been fairly well covered across the side.

But Richarlison‘s latest injury and James Maddison‘s poor form, Postecoglou is experiencing some real issues in his attack recently.

And journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed just what Postecoglou was saying when he was left shouting on the touchline on the weekend.

‘As others were marked, too often Postecoglou would have to call Son back into his own half to give Vicario or the defence an option to pass to rather than boot it long where it was just lost every time, but that’s just not Son’s strength,’ Gold said.

‘Playing with his back to the play is something he has improved on in recent years but he’s not a strong, hold-up striker that the team can play off, he’s a driving force and more comfortable when he’s facing the goal.’

Postecoglou has difficult decision to make for Arsenal lineup

Tottenham now have a two-week break until their next game which is as big of a fixture as they come in the North London Derby.

Richarlison is currently sidelined through injury, but Postecoglou did say there is a hope he will return soon.

However, if he does return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Arsenal clash, the Brazilian will not have played more than 10 minutes in a game since February.

His ability to start the game would be under huge speculation, but it is apparent this Spurs side need a target man to lead the line.

No Spurs attacker has scored since the game against West Ham with the only goal scorers sine Brennan Johnson‘s goal being Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro.
