Ange Postecoglou reveals Richarlison injury return date as he’ll miss Tottenham’s game vs Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has just provided an injury update ahead of the trip to Newcastle United.

The Lilywhites are back in action in the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday up in the north east.

It is not a stadium which Tottenham hold fond memories after last season’s rout which saw the travelling fans leaving the stands within the first 10 minutes.

But that is not the same Spurs to what Ange Postecoglou has assembled another following his appointment in the summer.

Spurs took all three points last time out in their game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Nottingham Forest.

But Tottenham will be travelling to Tyneside without their Brazilian striker Richarlison who is still struggling through an ongoing knee injury.

The 26-year-old has been struggling for over a month now and he did admit that during the international break when he was away with Brazil.

Ange Postecoglou shares fresh injury update on when Richarlison could return

This time last week, Postecoglou said something very similar to the media from Hotspur Way about the Brazilian striker.

The plan was for the 26-year-old to rest up as Spurs faced Nottingham Forest so he could return for the trip to St. James’ Park.

Clearly, the Brazilian is still struggling to make a full return having actually featured in the games against Fulham, Luton and West Ham.

But they were nothing more than cameo appearances off the bench and may have potentially worsened the injury.

Which is a real shame as he was in sensational form prior to this injury having netted nine in his previous 10 league games.

Speaking earlier today to the media, Postecoglou provided an idea of when fans could expect to see Richarlison return.

“Not for this week. He’s close and. obviously with the weekend off next weekend, it’ll give him time to recover – and he’s on track to do that,” Postecoglou said.

“Everyone else from last weekend has got through unscathed and are ready to go.”

Tottenham could now look to Ivan Toney to upgrade Richarlison

Over the last few days, it has been claimed Brentford’s Ivan Toney could be available for as little as £30m this summer.

And with Tottenham believed to be showing an interest in the England international, he could prove to be an upgrade on Richarlison.

The Spurs News have been told that Spurs would be open to selling the Brazilian this summer if the right offer is to land.

And if that is the case, Spurs could potentially bring in Toney and still make a profit with Richarlison unlikely to be sold for anything less than what he was bought for.
