Report: Tottenham could now potentially sign 'one of the best right-backs in the world' for just £22m

Tottenham Hotspur have a lot of work to do in the summer with regards to their ongoing rebuild.

Spurs have been a lot better this season than they were last year, even if Saturday’s result was a bitter pill to swallow.

Tottenham may have lost their hold on fourth place in the Premier League table, but they still have a game in hand on Aston Villa.

And even if Spurs don’t make the Champions League, the Europa League is still very much within sight.

No matter what happens though, Tottenham will need extra quantity as well as quality if they make it into European competition.

One player who was said to be Spurs’ radar earlier this year is a defender who has been described as “one of the best right-backs in the world”.

And a recent report has suggested that Tottenham – or any other suitors – could potentially land him for less than £22million.

The player in question is Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries. Back in December, InterLive linked Spurs with the Dutchman.

At the time, the Nerazzurri apparently wanted as much as €50million (£43million) for the 27-year-old amid interest from Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea.

What has now been reported about Spurs January target Denzel Dumfries?

However, a new report from FCInterNews has now reported that Dumfries is unlikely to command anything about €25million, or £21.5million.

Admittedly, this report doesn’t mention Tottenham. Aston Villa are said to be particularly interested in the Netherlands international, while West Ham have also scouted him.

Nonetheless, if Spurs decide to reignite their interest from January, they could potentially get themselves a top player for a bargain price.

Dumfries is on course for the Serie A title with Inter and has also won two Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups, on top of winning 52 Oranje caps.

Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands ace Jeremie Frimpong has previously lauded the reported Tottenham January target.

“I will play wherever the coach wants, both with Leverkusen and the Dutch national team whenever I get the chance,” he told Ziggo Sport, via FcInterNews.

“This is what every footballer wants. However, I’m aware of the strong competition in the national team.

“I knew it would be difficult for me, because Denzel Dumfries is one of the best right-backs in the world.”
