Scamacca scores another cracker but his manager echoes Moyes yet again

Ex West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has scored another cracker but his manager has echoed the sentiment of David Moyes yet again.

West Ham boss David Moyes has been heavily criticised over his handling of Gianluca Scamacca.

The manager gave up on the 6ft 5in Italian striker after just one season, selling him to Atalanta for £27.5m in the summer, a loss of £3m.

Scamacca became the latest in a long line of forwards who have failed to fire at West Ham.

Illness, injuries and a clear lack of research on the type of striker Scamacca is and what he would bring to the team left both the player and Moyes frustrated.

Many West Ham fans were divided on Scamacca, though.

Did Moyes make a massive mistake over Scamacca?

As widely reported by the likes of The Athletic, Moyes publicly stated that the striker did not work hard enough for the team and was not fit enough to last 90 minutes in the Premier League.

The Scot also publicly stated Scamacca must do more for the team.

Some fans agreed with the manager, others felt Moyes’ system and style was to blame and that he gave up on him too soon.

Back in January Moyes looked to have been vindicated as Scamacca was labelled ‘lazy’ by Atalanta’s boss Gian Piero Gasperini.

The ex Hammers forward recently opened up on struggles he has been experiencing.

Since then he has hit a real purple patch.

Striker scores another cracker

And he made big headlines last Thursday night.

West Ham were being utterly dominated in a 2-0 Europa League quarter-final defeat at Bayer Leverkusen with no options off the bench up front.

Meanwhile the striker Moyes shipped out scored a wonderful brace to help Atalanta beat Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield to put one foot in the semi-finals.

Scamacca was at it again when Atalanta played Verona on Monday.

He scored yet another cracker and set one up in a 2-2 draw.

That made it 14 goals and four assists in 34 games back in Italy.

That’s more than West Ham quartet Michail Antonio, Danny Ings, Maxwel Cornet and Divin Mubama combined.

Boss echoes Moyes sentiments on Scamacca

Despite his goals of late, though, Scamacca’s manager has echoed Moyes yet again.

Speaking after his latest goal, Gasperini has once again criticised Scamacca, demanding – like Moyes before him – that he demand more for himself to help his team.

“Scamacca has means that we all know,” Gasperini said, as reported by PazziDiFanta.

“He has grown and scores regularly. I’m not satisfied though and I want him to be even more continuous.

“You never stop improving. He has fantastic skills, but you always have to look ahead to try to achieve something more.”
