Douce pay tribute to Layrd Design after double win for Eddington salon

Douce, a five-seat salon, café and bar in Eddington, has won two awards for its outstanding interior design.

The two separate wins were for Best Retail Design at the SBID International Design Awards, and also for Best Leisure Interior for Cambridgeshire, the UK and Europe at the recent International Property Awards.

Owner and stylist Phil Benton founded Douce in 2017 and has evolved the salon’s ethos from national award-winning hair salons operating out of vintage Airstream trailers to the cutting-edge concept store of today.

The vision was created by Douce Founder Phil Benton’s partner Sophie Brown, and the result is a boutique salon is full of bespoke touches including:

\- A welcoming space with warm and earthy tones throughout, with walnut surfaces, polished concrete floors, dusty pinks, deep greens and coffee colours

\- Arches and curved aspects are used cohesively throughout the room and act as dividers for the salon zone, guiding clients seamlessly through the space while maintaining an interconnected feel

\- Clever and practical storage solutions were designed within a slatted timber feature wall

\- The front of the bar nods to the company's former Airstream venues, clad in stainless steel.

The 2022 bespoke salon scheme was boosted by interior design studio Layrd Design, which is based at Stirling House on Cambridge Innovation Park.

Phil Benton’s called Layrd Design “a young, creative team that are very responsive and forward thinking”.

He added: “They turned our ideas and designs to life whilst adapting and enhancing almost every aspect.”
