Tottenham have now made new decision on what to do with Timo Werner this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have now formed a new plan for the future of Timo Werner ahead of the summer transfer window.

It has made for a miserable few days at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following their defeat on the weekend against Newcastle United.

As poor as the result was, the thumping on Tyneside has dealt a big blow to Tottenham‘s hopes of landing a spot in the top four.

Ange Postecoglou remains uninterested in any conversation involving Tottenham finishing in fourth spot.

But it is apparent his players do not think the same with James Maddison already admitting he is desperate for the club to qualify for the Champions League.

One player who was brought in during the January transfer window to bolster Tottenham’s top four hopes is Timo Werner.

Ther German arrived on an initial loan deal until the end of the season with Spurs having until 14 June to activate his permanent clause.

But it now seems the Lilywhites have devised a new plan for the German.

Will Tottenham buy Timo Werner in the summer from RB Leipzig?

Since signing on loan, Werner has been handed his fair share of opportunities in the Spurs squad with Postecoglou still dealing with injuries.

Richarlison remains sidelined through a knee issue which has provided Werner with a run at the spot on the left as Heung-min Son tucks into the middle.

Up to now, the general consensus seemed as if Tottenham were keen to make Werner a permanent player at Hotspur Way over the coming months.

It was believed both Werner and the club were in favour of the move which would see him sign for a fee in the region of £15m.

However, it now seems as if the decision makers in north London may have slightly changed their minds over recent weeks.

According to transfer guru Graeme Bailey for HITC Football, the Lilywhites are hoping to extend Werner’s loan by a further year.

Werner remains in contract at Leipzig until 2026 and it is not yet known how the Bundesliga side would view a potential loan extension.

But this would seem pretty apparent that Spurs are not yet totally convinced over the idea of signing Werner permanently.

Everyone at Tottenham is saying the same thing about Werner at Hotspur Way

Although it seems the board may not not be fully in line with what to do with Werner over the coming months, he has made a positive impression on those behind the scenes.

Journalist Alasdair Gold has said his contacts at the club have all relayed the same message about how the German is acting at Hotspur Way.

“I’ve been speaking to a lot of people within the club about him, whether that’s, you know, his teammates, coaching staff, people just in various departments. They all say the same thing. Just what a really lovely down to earth guy is. There’s no ego there,” Gold said.

It has been a real mixed bag from Werner so far in a Spurs shirt with the German showing a lot of promise in attack but not a huge deal of quality.

Whether his positivity behind the scenes is enough to earn him a place in the squad permanently is another debate.
