Mauricio Pochettino must now drop 'very talented' Chelsea player after his performance vs Everton - opinion

Mauricio Pochettino oversaw the best overall performance at Stamford Bridge since he took over as Chelsea on Monday night.

The Blues ran out6-0 winners against Everton, with them putting things together across the 90 minute match that they had been threatening to do across the whole season.

Things seemed to click into place off the back of Cole Palmer’s brilliance, with him also putting in arguably his best performance of the campaign on a personal level too.

He scored four for the hosts, and was the main attraction from an attacking quartet that mostly all had their moments.

This was apart from Mykhailo Mudryk, who was handed just his third Premier League start of 2024 on the left wing.

With Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke heavily involved in everything that was positive going forwards, the Ukraine international was quiet in his attempts to impact proceedings.

It is clear he is a promising player, with international teammate Georgiy Sudakov describing him as ‘very talented’.

He was replaced in the second half by Ben Chilwell to feature slightly out of position, and brings the question up as to whether he is best placed to feature in the FA Cup semi-final at the weekend.

The Blues take on Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday, with the competition potentially holding their best chance at qualifying for European football for next season.

For this reason, team selection for Pochettino is absolutely crucial, and he has plenty of experience coaching with success against the treble winners so far this season.

Mudryk has not started either game against Pep Guardiola’s side this season so far, with the manager preferring to utilise Raheem Sterling against his former side.

The England international has repaid him by finding the net both home and away in draws.

He was not fit for the rout of Everton on Monday, however Pochettino will surely be hoping that he is available on Saturday to try and book their place in the final of the competition.
