Cole Palmer the star for Chelsea

The man of the moment was yet again Palmer, with the England international’s four goals seeing him move level with Erling Haaland at the top of the goalscoring charts.

He wasn’t the only player to find the net though, with Nicolas Jackson and Alfie Gilchrist at the end of both halves to send Chelsea fans home absolutely delighted.

The latter’s goal was a particular high, with the emotion on the academy graduate’s face very clear to see.

Chelsea squad delighted for Alfie Gilchrist

Palmer has now shared that the whole Chelsea squad were equally happy with Gilchrist’s first goal for the club.

He said: “Everyone was buzzing for him. Obviously, he has been at Chelsea for his whole life. He has trained with us and put 100 per cent in every day.”

Gilchrist has been one of the only real youngsters that have broken into the first team under Mauricio Pochettino, with his passion and desire clearly having an impact on the boss.

The player has already made an impression on his former Under-21 manager, Mark Robinson, who described him as ‘enthusiastic’.

Despite the fact that the majority of his first team minutes have come in an unfamiliar right-back position, he will no doubt be loving playing for his boyhood club.

The reported plans at this stage are for him to go on loan next season, hopefully taking the steps needed to move towards being a regular first team member for the Blues in the near future.
