Report: What sources are now saying about Amanda Staveley's role behind the scenes at Newcastle United

There has been some confusion about Amanda Staveley’s role behind the scenes at Newcastle United.

Amanda Staveley has been a director at Newcastle United ever since the completion of the Saudi-backed takeover in October 2021.

She bought 10% of the club alongside her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi, while Jamie Reuben took control of another 10%. The other 80% went to PIF, with Yasir Al-Rumayyan becoming the Magpies’ chairman.

PIF have all the power on Tyneside and make all the key decisions, but it has been Staveley and the rest of the British contingent who have been running the club since buying out Mike Ashley.

Staveley has played a key role at St James’ Park since the takeover, although she has seen her stake in the club decrease. PCP Capital Partners now only own 5.7%, with Jamie Reuben increasing his stake to 14.3%.

Companies House change for Amanda Staveley causes confusion

The fresh investment from RB Sports and Media has been interesting to see, but what was even more interesting was what happened on Companies House on Wednesday.

Staveley was removed as a director of Newcastle United, leading to confusion about her current role at St James’ Park.

Reuben was also removed, with Toon CEO Darren Eales being named as a new director.

It was a very confusing development, but an update from the Northern Echo has explained what has happened behind the scenes at Newcastle.

What Amanda Staveley’s role at Newcastle United is right now

According to the Northern Echo, Amanda Staveley remains a director of Newcastle United, as does Jamie Reuben.

The Northern Echo have been told by sources that the changes on Companies House were just for ‘financial housekeeping’, and the companies that were amended were mostly dormant.

So it appears to be a case of ‘nothing to see here’. The changes seem to be largely irrelevant, with Staveley still having the same role as she did before this weird Companies House update.

The only thing that has changed in recent months is her stake in the club, but it appears that she is just as involved.

It was recently reported that Staveley was part of the contract negotiations with Joelinton. He has now extended his stay at St James’ Park, much to the delight of Eddie Howe.
